Since it is a somewhat under the radar signing maybe he can peddle off this RamRam for a nice return to an unsuspecting GM before they know what they are actually getting.

Theo mentioned today that Ramirez could be an opption I t the rotation depending on injury. Sounds like he views him as a masterson clone.

In effect you're both right. Ram Ram II had been property of Cincinnati in 2009 appearing in eleven games. He was then placed on waivers by the Reds and claimed by Tampa. He never played for the Rays.

He might start in the bigs. Theo's made it exceedingly clear that he has no intention of spending bank on relievers. He said we're going the inexpensive route with guys he feels could be successful major leaguers if they "put it all together." Just saying.

Per Bradford (WEEI):

The Red Sox are lining themselves up to have two pitchers by the name of Ramon Ramirez on their roster.

The Sox claimed Ramon A. Ramirez off release waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays and will be notified if they are awarded the claim Wednesday. Ramirez had been claimed off outright waivers by the Rays after being with the Cincinnati Reds.

The 27-year-old, who like his Red Sox relieving namesake, Ramon Santo Ramirez, throws from the right side, has pitched in 16 games, 11 coming with the Reds in the 2009 season. He started four games for the Reds, finishing last season with a 1-1 records and 2.97 ERA.
