Kip, Rex, and Uncle Rico are three of the best characters ever assembled in one comedy movie.

Another movie not getting enough love in this thread is Super Troopers.

I had Super Troopers as #2 for the 00s. Can't say that I didn't give it love. As to The Hangover versus Animal House, I respectfully disagree. I liked The Hangover a lot, but it does not compare to Animal House. In fact, I dare say that no movie from the 00s could crack the top six from the 70s (Animal House being sixth on my list).

He was just the generic "weird guy" character. There was nothing special about his performance.

I don't understand why The Hangover was considered so funny. It was incredibly generic.

I honestly think The Hangover should be on the list. On my top 5 - I'm tempted to say it's the funniest movie I've ever seen but I want to see it a couple more times & make sure it's not just a novelty type thing. Def better than Animal House and I loved that movie.

80s

Two 80s movies were cited as belonging in the top 15 list - Blues Brothers 1980 and Back to School 1986. Both are definitely worthy movies but my question is where do they fit? Another reason that the 80s were definitely the zenith of comedy over the past 50 years. They could potentially slot into the back of the top 15 or they could miss the list - IMO neither are top 10 movies from the decade.

I think it's a good comedy and a borderline great movie. Now, that can work several ways, because often those aspects of a movie are inseperable, but ranking sheer comedies, it doesn't rank favorably when compared with movies like Dr. Strangelove, Spinal Tap, Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, and I'm sure others that I can't name off the top of my head.

Temple, I'm not trying to demand some type of meticulously ranked list of every movie you think is funnier. And, I'm not trying to argue that TBL is objectively better than every other comedy, I'm just saying that it's my favorite and trying to explain why. But, if you're going to tell me that I'm overrating it, it would be nice to know what a few of your favorites might be. If you must use a list, the AFI list at the start of the thread would seem a logical place to start.

I'd agree that TBL is a better movie than a comedy, but I think it's a great comedy.

I don't keep lists of these types of things and I don't feel like combing through imdb to figure out one. If you want to make a list of movies, I'll tell which ones I think are funnier. I'll say this, TBL is a better movie than it is a comedy.
