When I saw Kris spelled with a K I panicked a little cause I thought It was Kris Johnson at first. That would have upset me.

You guys do realize Nomar is not a SS anymore, and hasn't played a single game at the position this year. I would love to see Nomar back in Boston at some point, but he is a 1B/3B/DH right now, and there is no playing time for him here this season.

Nomar is on the give up and take him block. Though it would be actually a good baseball move if they got him as only a salary dump, put him on the DL then use him when rosters expand in September.

Sure I like Alex Gonzlalez infact I really thought he played well in his season with the Sox, but I would have loved to see them bring back Nomar, who is now on the trade block according to espn.com.

That has to be the biggest SSS anomaly ever, there's no way Green is a better defensive shortstop than basically anybody. I do think he has been playing his best, and he has made some nice plays. But he just isn't a ML SS.

I love this move. To go from Mike Lowell and Nick Green at 3B/SS to Kevin Youkilis/Alex Gonzalez is a monumental improvement. I don't care if Gonzalez hits .125 from here on out with no walk and no homers. This team, if it makes the playoffs, is not giving up any runs.

If he has fallen to Nick Green levels then it is a waste. I know at the start of the year he was not really ready to play so I wonder if there was improvement through the year? I would hope that the Sox scouts would see if his defense had fallen off. They sure would not be scouting his hitting.

But is Gonzalez really an upgrade? According to one defensive metric, Nick Green has actually had a better defensive season than Gonzalez.

The Ultimate Zone Rating compiled at FanGraphs.com uses a formula based on errors, range, and arm strength to quantify how many runs above average a player's defense creates for his team. This season, Green's UZR per 150 games would give the Red Sox eight runs above average. Gonzalez's would provide four runs above average.

I have always loved the defense you get from Alex. Living here in South Florida and watching everyday his defense was so much better that Edgar and Hanley that it was night and day. But coming back from micro fracture surgery I do not know how much range he has lost. I believe he will still be way better defensively than what we have now. The problem is that even with as poor as the team is hitting he will not help with the bat. But for me first and foremost you need defense at short so if his range is still there I will live with the lack of hitting and be happy with the deal.

When we had him in '06 I wasn't disappointed with what we got. Coming in, you didn't really expect anything offensively so when he hit for whatever average he hit for I was pleasantly surprised. It's sort of like if you expect a dog to bite you you'll be glad if all he does is poop on your shoes, If you expect him to hit .230 you'll be happy when he hits .250, it's still a terrible average but it's great for what you expected.

Breaking news: Kris Negron traded to Cincy for Alex Gonzalez... My first reaction: Wow! Negron was about as everyday a player as you see.

Negron started 111 out of 114 games for Salem, hit .264, .306 since break... certainly a team leader for Salem who will be missed by the Sox

Imagine it'll be tough for him to leave some good friends on team, but he just got traded straight up for a big leaguer... good opportunity
