The Red Sox made a few temporary roster moves, likely for tonight's game only, to replace Justin Masterson and Adam LaRoche. Pawtucket righthanded
reliever Marcus McBeth and Double A Portland outfielder Josh Reddick will be available tonight.

McBeth has compiled a 2.28 ERA and held opponents to a .176 batting average. Reddick, a breakout hitter during spring training, is batting .277 with a
.520 slugging percentage and 13 home runs. At 22, Reddick will become...

I do keep forgetting about Youks as a power hitter, but going into next year the Sox are still going to be looking for
a power bat (and LFer) and it doesn't help that the DH spot is going to be filled for the next year as well. Lowell should probably be traded, and as much
as I love him, Drew will probably be on the decline as well. Call me crazy, but I'd rather the Sox spend their money on the best available talent than
have to try to find the bat they need in trade, again.

They can save the prospects for getting the pitcher Theo wants...

Yeah, Kalish is a lefty and so are most of our best power prospects including Anderson, Reddick, Kalish, Rizzo, Mailman. Plus, the whole righty power thing
has been discussed here alot. I don't think we have much right handed power in our system except maybe Place, Exposito, Middlebrooks, Wilkerson (who has
yet to hit a pro homerun), and lower down you got Almanzar then maybe a couple guys from this year's draft like Renfroe, Schwindenhammer, and Mile Head.
There just isn't much right handed power potential in the system right now. I know I am forgetting someone or two but my point still stands.

As for the Markakis comparison, I was thinking that he was more like a white version of Adam Jones, a guy with a bit more power than Markakis and a little less
plate discipline. Probably has the speed to steal more bases but doesn't for whatever reason. Jones is a couple years older but 30 lbs heavier which I
think we all hope Reddick is able to pack on...

Probably for another thread, but between Youk, Martinez and Lowell, the Sox have three 12-20 homer guys who hit at least sometimes from the right. Pedroia

This leads me to my main point: can Lowell finish his comeback and play solid defense again? If not, can he move to 1B and be solid there for the remaining
year on his contract? That would give the Sox the flexibility to keep Kottaras as well as martinez and Tek (assuming he exercises his option)

'07 Ellsbury anyone? Just kidding. Sort of.

Jed Lowrie, '08.

I think someone would have to get hurt for it to happen, but it would not surprise me at all...

Ellsbury and Lowrie both had about 360 at-bats in Pawtucket before coming up to Boston for good. Let's not let one 2-for-4 performance get us
crazy now.

Next year is probably the '07 Ellsbury/'08 Lowrie year for Reddick. I don't think they would have acquired Anderson if they thought he was ready to
help for any length of time right now. It's still my belief that the Sox will add another reliever soon, particularly given the struggles Penny and Smoltz
have had going deep into games, and Reddick will be optioned when they do.

Reddick starting in left in Fenway for a year would make him a lock to get 20 assists.

Reddick/Ellsbury/Drew would be a hell of a defensive outfield.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Sox placed Daisuke Matsuazaka on the 60-day disabled list and designated Travis Denker designated for
