What about the fact that it's resulting in him throwing twice as many pitches as he otherwise would need to? Tonight was Wake's 17th start, and he is approaching 110 innings. He's going to go to the AS game, with all its brouhaha, and I bet out of sentiment they try to get him an inning there, or at least a couple of outs (since the AL has 13 pitchers).

And the guy is 42 years old. Francona might be well served to start trying to ease his workload just a bit in the 2nd half, if his bullpen is rested enough to allow it. Let the stronger, younger guys try to eat the extra inning here and there, if he feels it is absolutely necessary.
