I liked the selection of Bayer in the 30th Round of this years draft. Does anyone else see a high-reward in the making?? I saw him briefly for Trinity when
he played my Alma Mata and yes he was a man among boys. He is going to have to be put on the fast track as he is a 23yr old Rookie, but after 4 appearances,
6innings with 9K's and only 2 hits against, he looks to be proving himself from the get go. I know it is very early, but I would like to hear some news
and people's...

Just curious. I was looking at the 2010 projected rosters and noticed that Bayer is projected as a starting pitcher for Greenville next year. Does Bayer
truely project as a starter? I have yet to see him, but have heard good reports on his plus slider. He's put up alright numbers since I first started
this thread. 10ip with 14k's and only 1BB with 4ER.

He does not project as a starter. Greenville has utilized 2-3 "Piggyback Starters" throughout the year, which are essentially multiple
inning relievers who work on scheduled days. So while they don't technically start the game, their preparation and workload is more similar to a starter
than a reliever. I'm guessing The Dude feels he will be used as a PB starter.

Well, after throwing 6inn and only giving up 2hits with 9K, Bayer received his "welcome to professional baseball" last night.

He gave up 4H with 3ER, 1BB, and 1K in 1.2inn. I still have high hopes for him though.

I know we've talked before about the difficulty of moving relievers up during the season. There are good guys up in Pawtucket, and many relievers don't
have true upside, so it's better to have a strong bullpen than push them forward mid-season. However, with a guy like Bayer, who is recently drafted, would
the Sox hope for some upside, and test it in a higher level this year? If he were to move up, I'd rather see him jump to Salem, where the bats would be
more advanced, rather than merely move to Greenville, where the competition is similar at this point in the summer to the NYPL. Also, I'd of course want to
see a little more out of him before being considered for a promotion.

The slider I saw from him was very good yesterday. Had alot of bite to it. He only tops around 85-86 on his fastball but uses his slider and changeup to get
hitters out.

He's going to continue to have his way with a lot of the NYPL hitters so I would expect him to have pretty good numbers regardless, but the reports on his
sinker have indicated it is a pretty legit pitch. His slider sounds like a hard breaking one as well. I definitely want to check him out and we'll get a
good look at him this summer for you, Bates.

I don't know a lot about Bayer and have never seen him pitch, with that said though, it seems like every year there are one or two players that the sox
draft out of college who get off to a flyer and then never really amount to a lot. I hope I am wrong, but just giving something I have observed through the
years.
