Tonight is opening night in the NHL so I thought I would start a thread where we can all share some sort of hope the Bruins will get back to the playoffs and win a series this year. I personally see the B's finisishing 5/6 in the East, I think people will be very surprised at how good Phil Kessel will be (32-36-68 totals) and I think their powerplay has a chance to be deadly along with having a very good PK with Axelsson, Primeu, Donavan, Mowers, Bergeron, and Boyes all pretty good PKer's.
I agree with Singer; they should be among the class of the east once again in the regular season. While they did out perform expectations last year, they do
have a supposedly healthy Sturm playing now. While the loss of Kessel hurts, because their core is so young, expect a number of players to take steps forward
(again) this season without much regression. Anything less than an ECF showing should be considered a failure.

He's had two good years in a row. Last year obviously being superior. I think you can make a case the Bruins are better than every team except Pittsburgh.
Washington has defensive questions and inexperience in net should they go with Varlamov. Philly has an unreliable goaltender in Ray Emery. New Jersey has a
much weaker defense than they have in many years. I think the balance of the Bruins from offense, to defense to goaltending will make them very consistent the
entire year and be an elite team with Pittsburgh.

I agree with that 100%. I supported bringing back Thomas, but not at the price and length we will. I wanted to see a platoon this year with Thomas and Rask,
whoever is playing better seeing 60/40 of the time. Then that would put Rask in a position to start full time in 2010-11. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge
fan of Timmy's, but he's older, and he just had a special year so he deserved to get paid, but who am I to say he will either do that again or have a
poor year showing last year as an abberation (which is a real possibility)?

I really dislike the contract we signed him to.

It's easy to make blind predictions about who will do what and who will be better than who based on the past, but I try to stay away from that.
Realistically, and trying to be as unbiased as possible, I think we'll have a good competition with them and Philly for the 3/4/5 spots this year, and if
some pieces fall into place we could have a very real shot at a top 2 seed.

I can't wait for this year to get started, but I feel like the team overachieved a bit last year. I see around a 3/4/5 range this year for the team behind
Washington and Pittsburgh, and in the mix with New Jersey and Philly.

We royally screwed ourselves in the offseason. I love bringing in Morris to bolster the defense, but you sign Thomas to a ridiculous deal and that 100%
hampered our ability to bring back Kessel, which is a big blow. I know Timmy was awesome last year, and he earned his payday, but I don't see the reasoning
behind 4 highly paid years, specifically when Tuukka Rask is ready and waiting. I don't think the team took a step back, but we're not much better,
I'd say we moved laterally in the offseason.

If Lucic and Wheeler can step up and continue to develop, and Sturm can stay healthy, losing Kessel stings less, but it'll still be felt. The guy would
have scored 50 last year if he didn't get mono, in my opinion, at 21...

a checking line that should put some in the net as well.

anything, but it very well could be if things don't fall into place. 2009-10-11 are two big seasons for this team. It's sad to lose Kessel, but how can
you not be excited for NHL hockey at this point?

Anybody want to take a stab at the opening night lineup? I've got:
Lucic-Savard-Wheeler
Sturm-Bergeron-Recchi
Kobasew-Hamill-Ryder

Thornton-Begin-Bitz
Chara-Morris

Stuart-Wideman

Ference-Hunwick
Thomas
Rask
I would personally rather see Bergeron centering Sturm and Ryder, but I don't think that will happen. Also, Sturm could slot in at RW on the first line as
he skated there today. It would be very re-assuring to see Hamill assert himself and break camp with the team.
