Time to voice your vote on the Red Sox prospect rankings. You know the drill - rank your top 40 Red Sox prospects. Please keep the discussion to a minimum in
this particular thread - this thread is specifically for taking and tallying everybody's rankings. Discussion of the rankings can go in this thread. Criteria for rankings should be your opinion of each prospect's

2009 Trade Deadline discussion

We already have a thread for in season trade news items. There is discussion going on about possible Sox moves in threads all over the place as we approach the
end of July. I thought maybe it's time for a consolidated thread concerning player movement as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, what the Sox
should be trying to accomplish, and if/when something happens, assessing the worth and ramifications of such moves.

To start off, I'd like to note the following:

(1) As many people have said in various places, the Sox have a legitimate chance at another title this year. That means the team should be serious about
looking for upgrades that can help them get over the hump. Every indication we have is that management is doing just that.

(2) As mentioned elsewhere, the Sox have prospects and available cash sufficient to make virtually any move, or maybe a couple of moves, that they choose. That
is a luxury most franchises do not have.

The Roy Halladay Sweepstakes

Apparently, one of the best pitchers of this generation, Roy Halladay, is being dangled as trade bait. In my view, Halladay is a three B+ or better prospect
deal.

I would think the top two teams in the bidding (with potential packages) will be:

Hankees (Hughes, Romine/Montero, Melancon)

Phillies (Taylor/Brown, Drabek/Knapp, Marson)

While I love him, I don't see the Red Sox getting involved. If they did, it would likely take Bowden, Masterson and Anderson (I am assuming Buchholz does
not get traded in any deal). BTW, I make that deal in a nanosecond. Beckett, Halladay and Lester as your three playoff starters, with Papelbon, Smoltz and
Penny coming out of the pen? Sign me up.

I don't see the Brewers ponying up Gamel or Escobar or the Dodgers willing to trade Billingsley or Broxton, and the Rangers cannot take on the salary.

Discuss.

Here are the results from the 2009 Pre-Season SoxProspects.com Community Rankings voting, which took place March 11-22, 2008. Overall, 36 members voted by
submitting their respective top 40 lists. No lists were excluded as outliers. However, on 3 occasions, members ommitted a prospect that really should have
been ranked, presumably by accident. In those 3 cases, those votes were counted in their entirety, except we did not count the exclusion of those players
against those players (those players' "average" ranks were calculated as if one less person voted). For purposes of average"
rankings", players who did not recieve a top 40 vote for a particular member were assigned a "48" (thus some players have average rankings under
40).

This list will be taken into consideration when the 2009 season-start rankings are published.

Voting has begun in the SP Meta Forum for 2009 Pre-Season All Stars.

Please vote for the playrs that you expect to have the best seasons in the Red Sox minor league system in 2009. This vote should not necessarily be about who
you think the best prospects are, but rather who you think will have the best seasons in 2009. Please note that each player will only be eligible at one
position, so that player does not split votes between two positions. Also, please note that players expected to play a majority of the season at the MLB level
are not eligible. The polls will close on Sunday 3/8.
